#amazonfail: Amazon excluding GBLT & erotica from bestseller lists and SEARCHES

Actual facts have been obtained. Amazon is protecting is general readership from the evol gay and the pr0n. Read here: http://markprobst.livejournal.com/15293.html

I've got #amazonfail going on twitter. Go tweet and protest! Think of it as signing an e-petition, only with 140 characters to express your outrage!

Here's the note I included:

Dear Amazon: By all means make an "adults only" section, or a way, like google, to set explicitness levels to your content. Amazon is the king of personalized marketing--you can do this! Just don't erase us altogether. There's something scary about being erased on Easter/Passover.
(I deleted the Nazi reference before hitting send.)

GYM DANDY available elsewhere

Boy, I really started something this morning with the first post to #amazonfail. It's taken on a life of it's own. But...

I don't want to boycott Amazon. I didn't ask anyone to boycott Amazon. I just want GYM DANDY to be included with all the other books.

Or else, give us writers of "adult" books our own sandbox. Why not a "level" system like google has where you set your preferences once and aren't shown anything with certain ratings? The search default without logging in could exclude "adult" books, but once logged in, you get what you want to see. After all, you need a credit card to be an Amazon customer, and you need to be 18 to get a credit card (I believe). Tell me that not a single customer goes to Amazon specifically to buy pr0n. Srsly. Why drive away those customers?

I still maintain this was an ill-thought-out plan by Amazon to sell more Kindles e-book readers, since apparently those Kindle editions of gay and erotic books that had rankings (mine never did and don't now) got to keep them and re-populate the bestseller lists. So apparently we only need to be protected from print editions. Good thing there are no general readers or children in brick-and-mortar bookstores where print copies of GBLT books and erotica can be purchased. /sarcasm

At my local Indigo (Canadian big box book retailer) not only is GYM DANDY shelved with general fiction, but they want me to do a signing tied in with Pride week. And it's a very yuppie neighbourhood. (Yonge & Eglinton for anyone who knows Toronto.) Amazon might want to take a gander at the Canadian Human Rights Code before it discriminates on Amazon.ca. We tend not to protect our citizens from new ideas and alternative thinking.

I image this will be straightened out in a few days, but might not be without our/your vocal protests.

If anyone wants to purchase GYM DANDY from Amazon, I'm okay with that. If you want alternatives, there's Barnes and Noble for the print version, and my publisher lists all the links for electronic editions here: http://www.mlrpress.com/ShowBook.php?book=GYMDANDY

I'm now going to check #amazonfail one more time and then it's off to a family dinner. Yes, I did allow the wonder that is Twitter to keep me from writing today. My bad.
I Do Cover

#amazonfail, we've arrived!

We've a lolcat and a logo now, as well as a scanty press release from Amazon saying it's all just a glitch. Um, yeah. A glitch that targets certain groups.

Press release was on Publisher's Weekly, but apparently we crashed the site. Oops.
